I love Subway, and despite my usual misanthropic outlook on the world I fucking love Christmas too. I dig Christmas in a big bad way and so when I popped my head in to Subway [for perhaps the 3rd time that week] and found that they'd introduced a new sandwich, I was intrigued. Last time they did that we all got to enjoy the Reggae Reggae Chicken Sub, and that was a very pleasant era.

Christmas and Subway are two excellent words, now finding themselves together for possibly the first time. The sandwich itself has myriad ingredients, beyond the salad and such, which you obviously choose for yourself. Chicken, which is the standard chicken pieces you can achieve all year round and are, as such, not that special.

Where things get festive is the introduction of stuffing. It's sage and onion, and I think we can all agree that's the more popular kind, and they spread that action right over the length of the bread [I rocked a foot long, because I'm not a 'mo] then they hit you with the first new option.

Gravy Sauce.

It's not gravy, it's ‘Gravy Sauce’ and it tastes a bit like a mild beef gravy but comes in the consistency of sauce, so it's thicker and squirts easier from the bottle and such. It's nice too.

Further down the line we're talking salads and what have you, then it's Cranberry Sauce too. I hesitated, if I'm honest, to mix the sauces. Fruit and gravy? Not sure about that. Then I remembered Apple Sauce, a staple of my pork chop world since 1989, and all was well.

Foot long Chicken and Stuffing Subway on Honey Oat Bread, with Gravy Sauce, no cheese, toasted, lettuce, cucumber, onion, olives, peppers, sweetcorn and Cranberry Sauce to finish.

I ate this thing in two sittings, because despite opting for the larger sandwich I found myself in an ‘Eyes bigger than my belly’ situation and couldn't finish it. Had the rest for lunch the next day. It was fucking nice though people, is what I'm here to tell you. I advise you give it a whirl, because it'll be gone before the month is out and 2010 will be a desolate and sad place.

If you don't fancy it, do get Cranberry Sauce on your usual sandwich. It's free and it will also be gone soon.
