My 2 Pints
Not my usual haunt, London Bridge. I often worry that when I get there it will be burning down hahahaHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHA!!!!
Now that’s out of the way, finding this pub was a bitch [and took me past Disney Lane and Mint Place!] but when I finally arrived it was good. Firstly, it’s a surprisingly big place inside. The bar takes up a large portion of the square footage, but there are plenty of places to sit. I went there on a Monday evening, right at the peak of After Office Drinking Time, and still managed to get served almost right away and seated immediately. Can’t say that about most places in London.
Drinkwise I was a happy man. They serve IPA and various other rotating cask ales, plus when I ordered a pint of Courage the incredibly friendly barkeep lady offered me the chance to drinking from a pint glass… or a pint JUG!
Jug! In this day in age! With a handle and the lot. It was mega. Other drinks were standard fair to be honest. Your upper to mid level lagers [Staropramen and its ilk] with a cider thrown in for the lady/17 year old among your group.
A round of two pints [one Courage, one Staropramen] set us back £7, which for the location and the placing of the pub is fairly uniform.
BEER SELECTION: The usual high end stuff, but a good amount of casks. ****
COST OF A ROUND: £7 odd for a bitter and a lager. ***
STAFF: Really very nice indeed, and in plentiful supply. *****
FOOD: On the expensive poncey side of normal food. Minted parlaise of broiled lamb with rustic sauté [AKA Lamb Burger and Chips]. **
SKIRT RATIO: Reasonable. Good mix too of the office bound and somewhat less dead-eyed. ***
OVERALL: It’s looking good for this place. The price puts me off, as does the distance, but bitter in a pint jug? COME ON! ****
