My 2 Pints

Coming from the Midlands has probably spoiled me for London pubs. Where I come from a pint of bitter is around the £2 mark, scarcely ever going above a £2.50 threshold. Down here... not so much. It’s expensive and recently I paid £3.60 for a pint of Broadside XXXX which wasn’t even that nice, which is why I happy to come across the Blue Posts in Soho.

It’s a small pub on Berwick St, a couple of minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Circus AND Picadilly Tube stations, so it’s wicked easy to get to. It’s brown in terms of style, meaning no shiny chrome surfaces, formica bar tops or interesting sculptures stuck in the middle. In short, it’s a pub. Like I say it’s small but not tiny, and there is an upstairs area should the ground floor get a bit packed. This is one of four pubs called The Blue Posts in the surrounding area, which apparently used to mark off the corners of the royal hunting ground. The bar staff were reasonably friendly in a sort of indifferent way, and the threat of violence was non-existent which is nice.

I visited in the early evening, around 6pm, and it was pretty quiet. Just how I like it, to be honest. A pint of Guinness and a cask ale gets you change from a fiver, but the food lets the place down somewhat. I went for a club sandwich which was pretty small for what I paid, and the side salad and portion of chips was laughable. My mate had nachos and he got quite a few, but all they’ve done is stick half a bag of Asda Torilla chips into a bowl and slapped some salsa on it. Total cost to them = 80p at most. Cost to him... about £6.

If you’re looking for somewhere to have a quiet drink at the end of the day, Blue Posts is a good place to do it, but I wouldn’t suggest making a night of it.
