LeedsMeUp.Com

For an incredibly short period in 2007, if you’d have visited Wikipedia, and chosen to search ‘Leedsmeup’. The text you would find would be something like this.

Leeds Me Up

Leedsmeup.com was a student website based and covering the majority of Student life in Leeds between 2004-2006. The Leeds Me Up team were dedicated to experiencing as much as they possibly could as University Students in the small city. They brought Events (their nights out) to life by publishing written accounts, along with the pictures of the evening. Way before the influx of Facebook and even Myspace, Leedsmeup.com led the path in user generated content websites.

During the second phase of their reign over the apathetic minds of the city’s day-sleepers, the concept was expanded greatly to include written articles on anything and everything that would take their fancy. These were presented alongside reviews of Films (Cinema and DVD releases) / Games / Pubs / Clubs, Stories, and written information on regular members. All written with a homely charm of a great night with your mates down the pub.

What seemed to set Leeds Me Up apart from other groups of the same style, was their professionalism of it all. During their peak, they managed to enjoy a continued run, overtaking the airwaves of the city for a full year! An update came every week with an event (sometimes 2), an article, and often many features running week to week. By all accounts, this was constructed by a skeleton team of only 2 with occasional additional lyrics from a few select supporting parties.

Leeds Me Up was a credit to the students of Leeds, their love of life, of friends and of partying. It certainly made my Monday morning study session in the library bearable. Sadly the updates stopped and the site was finally taken down April 2006 for reasons unknown. I however, am not alone in my yearning for it’s return.

To this day, I have no idea where it came from, or who wrote it. Whoever it was, unfortunately their thoughts and opinions were not heard for long. As I say, I can only recall this as the element of the text, as it was taken down roughly 10 minutes after going up.

Under Wikipedia opinion the information was “Of no interest to anyone.

Here I have lovingly re-created the old website in all it’s glory for all to enjoy. Unfortunately a lot of the content is missing. The site was pulled down and all files were deleted. It is only recently when I received the remnants of my old busted hard drive I have been able to access anything. This is everything I managed to save from the fire. Please enjoy.
