Robots - Brought to you by Gazz Wood  -

Computer Animated Films are a relatively new character on the Hollywood block. However their impact on the industry is already incredibly obvious.

The film that started it all, ‘Toy Story’, is still thought to be the best by most. And is now giving us a third instalment of the beautifully crafted visual style. This along with recent hits like ‘The Incredibles’, ‘Shrek & Shrek 2’, and Finding Nemo, were all at some time heralded as the best too.

Of course with every film genre out there, it’s not all fairytales and rosebuds, computer animation definitely has had its fair share of flops. ‘Shark Tale’ to name only one (And when it’s that, I only need to name one).

In a market growing more and more saturated as Producers realise the potential and ease of the animation movie, it’s hard to keep track of which film is with which Studio/Effects Company. How would ‘Robots’, a film made by, ‘I don’t know’, created by the talented hands of ‘I don’t know’ fare?

Well… It’s a kids movie. All these animated things are. Sadly we’ve yet to see an adult orientated computer animation film hit the big time. (I’m sure they’ve probably been some made) But at the moment, the genre is very child-orientated. The majority of the better examples however, are the ones that have the ability to mix the children’s jokes and adult humour into such a complementary blend of tasty entertainment. ‘Robots’ manages to mix these two ingredients together, and burn down the kitchen.

There’s nothing really wrong with it. Especially from a child’s point of view. It’s just a bit soft. Well no, it’s very soft. The plot’s incredibly thin and predictable, the jokes are nothing we’ve not seen a thousand times before. The characters lack thought and imagination, and cant hold the interest of an audience for more than 5 minutes.

The only good thing I can say about the film is the inventiveness of the world in which the robots live, especially their transport system is out there, on a par with something not shit. But everything else is seriously lagging.

Don’t see Robots unless you have children, and even then, if you CAN get them to watch something else which might challenge them intellectually, please do.

Because this won’t.
