Millions - Brought to you by James Wormald -

By the time of the latest screening of Millions (16:30), something told me it was thought of as a 'children's film.

Ok, it's a Christmas movie (put back for a summer release), the lead characters are both children, and it deals with moral, greed, and coming of age themes. But the tag says 'A Danny Boyle Film' because of this, it was never going to be that simple from the get go.

Hailed as 'A Danny Boyle film you can take your kids to'... Millions seems like a great family summer movie.

This, it is not.

Yes it’s one that parents can take kids to... but the concept of this is far removed from the film that children can take their parents to see. The film caters for every age group, but then so does The Simpsons Apparently. The difference is that instead of appealing to the child hidden in the adult, Millions appeals to the adult in every child.

The actual film has essences of archetypal South Park themes with the innocence of children representing more maturity than the adults. With the result being to reflect the actual amount of humanity in so called maturity

Solid performances from the no-star cast, including (My favourite) Pierce Quigley showing off his excellent comedy timing as the ‘Community Policeman’. A snappy script with a surprisingly small number of horribly cheesy moments (considering the themes), excellent score and soundtrack, and a ‘non-stop’ character driven narrative.

Boyle is able to bring all together effortlessly to create a thoroughly enjoyable and entertainingly moving film.

These don’t come along very often, so take note.

Best of its kind since Garden State.
