Hometown Weekend: Welcome to Selston - Brought to you by Gazz Wood -
Day two of the Hometown Weekend and we found ourselves back in the home of Gazz. The village of Selston is where he was born, raised, and eventually thrown out of after 19 years to go to University. It's a place which holds a great many memories for Gazz, only some of them interesting as everyone found out on the tour.
Accompanying us on this trip down memory lane was Dave, Gazz's best friend since he was 4 and also nowadays a professional Hanson lookalike. The tour was pretty much a bust, with Selston being about as interesting as a sock display and neither Gazz nor Dave having done anything of note at any point in their lives.
To drown our sorrows we sheened over to the White Lion, a pub which actually has the Deliverance song on it's jukebox just to show you how backwards it is. Then on to Ma Hubbards, where Gazz used to work, for some quality food at low low prices. The staff were all about 12, which pleased TheWorm no end, and there was many a piece of Garlic bread slung back during the course of the meal.
Once full, we got the Oh So Long bus to Nottingham itself and finally arrived somewhere civilised.
The Roebuck in Notts was Gazz's favourite pub and also is where his ex-girlfriend Laura works. Heart wrenching fun for all. She did come, as it goes, to say hello and Happy Birthday for Gazz's 21st the next day. Then, having spoken to a possibly cracked up Small Boy Dan (The college years predecessor of TheWorm) we fucked right off to The Pit and Pendulum, but it had finished serving so we tried The Priory. Same.
Back round the corner we intended on hitting the Cookie Club, but TheWorm had the much better idea of trying the Notts Walkabout on for size, since we're in the Leeds version all the time. Not a bad place, not as nice as the one in Leeds plus we don't know any of the staff.
The DJ was fucking shit and the people in there were mostly cocks. Just when we'd had enough, we left.
Thus was the end of the Nottingham leg of the Hometown Weekend.
